Periodic Inspection Reports

For those businesses undertaking Periodic Inspection Reports on domestic, industrial or commercial properties, we recommend our Approved Contractor Scheme.  Enrolment on the scheme provides electrical contractors who perform Periodic Inspection Reporting recognition of their skills.  Upon enrolment with NICEIC your business will be included in the roll of Approved Contractors, which is used by householders, landlords and other specifiers.

Periodic Inspection is the inspection of the condition of an existing electrical installation, identifying in order of priority any deficiencies against the national safety standard for electrical installations.

A Periodic Inspection will:

  • reveal if any electrical circuits or equipment is overloaded
  • find any potential shock and fire hazards in the installation
  • identify any defective DIY electrical work
  • highlight any lack of earthing or bonding

Tests are also carried out on wiring and associated fixed electrical equipment to check that it is safe and a schedule of circuits is developed during the inspection.
