This course qualifies the candidates to undertake energy calculations, using Reduced data Standard Assessment Procedure(RdSAP) software, on existing dwellings to produce an Energy Performance Certificate. No specific background experience of domestic buildings is required, however, applicants should be comfortable with using computer systems.

Pre-course materials contain a reading list and guidance on what candidates should do before attending the training. Working through this reading list will give candidates some of the background knowledge they will require for both the legislative and technical aspects of the training.

Day 1
  • Introduction to Domestic Energy Assessment
  • The EPC and the Green Deal
  • The City & Guilds award
  • Data requirements of RdSAP 
  • Accreditation schemes, Code of Conduct, complaints
  • Measurement, heat loss perimeter and floor area
  • Open book test

Day 2
  • Date of construction: Why is this and how is it identified?
  • Domestic construction: Walls, windows, roofs, fireplaces and chimneys
  • Open book test

Day 3
  • Main heating systems recognition and data entry
  • Main heating controls recognition and data entry
  • Secondary heating recognition and data collection
  • Renewable technology and RdSAP 
  • Recommendations
  • Case study: Longley Close
  • Assignment
  • Compiling the portfolio
The course is aimed at those without specific background experience of domestic buildings. However, applicants should be comfortable with using computer systems.

Successful candidates will be qualified to undertake energy calculations, using Reduced data Standard Assessment Procedure (RdSAP) software, on existing dwellings to produce an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

Note: All residential existing dwellings in the UK require an EPC before they are sold or let.

Candidates who successfully complete the Domestic Energy Assessor course can progress to the Domestic Green Deal Advisor training course.
