Since Part P of the Building Regulations in England & Wales was introduced in 2005, all electrical installation work in a home, garden, conservatory or outbuilding must meet the Building Regulations and failure to comply with Part P could be a criminal offence.

All electrical installation work, including notifiable work by electrical contractors should be checked and certified as part of the job to ensure that the work carried out complies with the Building Regulations.
When using a registered electrical contractor, you do not need to notify your Local Building Control Body in advance, as the electrical contractor will do this when the work is finished.

You can check the details of the Building Regulations Compliance Certificate via the number on the certificate or the address where the work was carried out.
