Fire Detection Scheme (BAFE SP203-1)

Accreditation to support fire detection and fire alarm systems.

For more than 25 years, BAFE Approval Schemes have set the industry standards for the fire protection industry. NICEIC can help contractors demonstrate their competence in this market by providing a route to BAFE accreditation.

SP203-1 has been set up as a modular scheme covering the different work activities associated with fire detection and fire alarm systems. These modules are:
  • design
  • installation
  • commissioning and handover
  • maintenance
The advantage of this approach for businesses is that you can be assessed in only the areas you wish to work.

Pricing is based on the number of modules you wish to be assessed in.  To discuss your particular requirements call us on 0333 015 6626.

To apply for the BAFE SP203-1 scheme, just call us on 0333 015 6626.

Alternatively we will call you to progress your application if you complete our online enquiry form.

Once we receive your application we will advise you of an assessment date.  Your area engineer will meet you and conduct the assessment.  At the end of the assessment a recommendation will be made as to whether you meet the scheme requirements. This recommendation is independently verified and written confirmation of your registration will be sent to you. The Assessment Overview section provides more guidance as to how to prepare for your assessment.

Please note that if you run your business from multiple offices you will need to submit a separate application for each contracting site.
BAFE's scheme objective is to provide a means by which fire protection system users and regulatory authorities can be confident that the companies providing fire alarm systems, have processes in place to effectively undertake such activities within their defined scope of work.

The scheme document specifies the conditions to be met by certificated organisations and can be found here.

NICEIC's supplementary requirements that are utilised in the management and execution of the BAFE SP203-1 Fire
Detection and Fire Alarm Systems Scheme can be found here

The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that the appropriate management system is in place and the quality of your work meets industry standards.

At the end of the assessment the area engineer will give you feedback on how it went. They will then make one of the following recommendations:

  • Certification Recommended - your business will be recommended for certification if your office processes meet the requirements of BAFE SP203-1
‚Äč
  • Certification Not Recommended - if your business does not fully comply with the scheme requirements but is likely to do so after addressing any identified issues, a recommendation will be made to further assess the organisation. Depending on the issues identified this may be addressed through submission of evidence or an additional assessment

Technical Review and Certification Decision
An independent technical expert from the audit team will review the certification recommendation to ensure nothing has been missed. This review will grant certification if you have been successful and you will be notified in writing.
