Green Deal is the governments flagship policy aimed at improving the energy efficiency performance of properties across the UK.

Certification can help your customer get subsidies and cash back to help with upfront costs of installing a range of measures to improve the energy efficiency of their home.

Examples of the types of work covered by the Green Deal include:

  • Heating: including Condensing Boilers (Gas\LPG\Oil) Fired (Domestic and Non-Domestic), Heating Controls. Under-Floor Heating, Flue Gas Recovery, Heating Systems Insulation (pipes and cylinders), Warm Air Units
  • Insulation: including Cavity Walls, Loft, Pitched Roof, Flat Roof, External Wall, Internal Wall, Hybrid and Floor and Draught Proofing
  • Electrical: including Lighting Controls (Non-Domestic only), Light Fittings, Storage Heaters
  • Renewable technologies: including Micro CHP, Ground Source Heat Pumps, Air Source Heat Pumps, Biomass Boilers, Solar Thermal, Solar Photovoltaic
Pricing for the Green Deal Installer scheme is based on the number of individual measures you want to be assessed for. Existing registered contractors can benefit from reduced prices by combining scheme assessments. Applicants may also benefit by gaining competent person scheme registration within the assessment cost.

Once we receive your application we will advise you of an assessment date. Your area engineer will meet with you and conduct the assessment. At the end of the assessment a recommendation will be made as to whether you meet the scheme requirements. This recommendation is independently verified and written confirmation of your registration will be sent to you. You can find further guidance as to the nature of the assessment on the Assessment Overview section.

Please note that if you run your business from multiple offices you will need to submit a separate application form for each contracting site.

The Green Deal scheme requirements are based on the management systems outlined in PAS2030.  Your business will need to show:

  • There is an individual responsible for the company’s certification and all activities relating to Green Deal (usually a business owner or director)
  • A health and safety policy that identifies risks associated with the installation of energy efficiency measures
  • A process for identifying and resolving product and process non-conformities
  • Records of activities relating to Green Deal
  • A complaints process that manages issues relating to the Green Deal
  • A process for ensuring and recording all equipment is calibrated and maintained
  • That all product storage and transportation is conducted safely and in accordance to manufacturer’s instructions
  • That all employees and subcontractors maintain competence and are appropriately trained
  • A process for assigning work to the appropriate staff and supervising their work
  • Management of subcontractors (if applicable)
  • Work is inspected and verified by the appropriate competent person
  • A process that details the work specific tasks that should be undertaken for each installation
  • A process for managing any changes in specification that will change the installation process
  • A process for declaring that installations meet the requirements of PAS 2030
  • Work is undertaken by competent persons and in compliance with the Building Regulations relevant to the country(ies) in which the company operates

Assessment to become a Green Deal Installer is based on a full day.  The actual time taken will depend on how many measures you are being assessed in which will be confirmed to you at the point of application.
The purpose of the assessment is for you to show your work meets the scheme requirements. To do this the assessment covers two aspects:
  1. Office - to demonstrate that your business meets the mangement systems and competency criteria of the scheme
  2. Site - to demonstrate that your business meets the technical standards for the work you undertake
At the close of the assessment the assessor will advise you on any action points and make a recommendation as to whether you meet the scheme standards. This is subject to review and verification before a written confirmation of your registration will be sent to you.
