Bespoke Part P Course for Local Authorities
Since the introduction of Part P in January 2005, NICEIC Training has worked closely with the Local Authorities and LABC to deliver a series of successful workshops for Building Control Officers. Through our work with Local Authorities we have created an on-site Part P course that can be tailored to meet the needs of each Building Control Team. Our bespoke approach allows you to get maximum benefit from your training, both in terms of time and money.
Course Objective:
To provide basic electrical awareness and prepare Building Control Officers for the challenges of Part P.
Stage 1 Workshops - Introduction:
- Insight into current legislation and associated industry guidance
- The requirements of Part P and its scope
- The relevant parts of BS7671 (Requirements for Electrical Installations) with respect to new electrical installation work and extensions or alterations to existing electrical installations
- Forms of Certification - where and when each type should be used and the associated tests
- Addresses the requirements and learn how to complete a checklist for practical matters with respect to the construction of electrical installation issues such as:
Stage 2 - Advanced:
- Checks to be made at every installation
- Intake position & consumer unit
- Types of system and characteristics of supplies
- Main bonding requirements
- 'EEBAD'
- Circuit protection, fuses, circuit breakers and Residual Current Devices
- Minor Electrical Works Certificate
- TN and TT systems, typical values
- Health & Safety at Work Act and Electricity at Work Regulations and Part P
- How they apply to the activity of inspection
Checks for an alteration or addition to an existing circuit (e.g. extension to a ring final circuit in a kitchen)
- 'first-fix' check list for cable routing, etc
- Confirm requirements
- Confirm polarity and earth path exists
- Presence of Residual Current Device?
- Test and check recorded values are within limits
- Content of Minor Electrical Works Certificate
Checks for a new circuit (e.g. Instantaneous electric shower fitted in a bathroom)
- Intake Position
- Main bonding
- Circuit protection
- Special locations
- Supplementary bonding to reduce risk of shock
- Equipment correctly selected for zones
- IP rated equipment suitable for bathrooms/shower rooms
- Circuit identification
- Electrical Installation Certificate
- Checks for this installation and other new circuit installations
