Elementary Gas Certificate (Managed Learning Programme)

Work Areas NICEIC Certifications Elementary Gas Certificate is an On the Job assessment programme designed to meet the requirements for Category 2 entrants to the Nationally Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS) for Gas, as detailed in ACS Guidance Note 8 and 8A.  On the Job Assessments are seen as the primary source of evidence for making judgments on an individual’s competence.
 
EGC (Domestic) Elementary Gas Certificate Domestic Installers.
EGC (Non Domestic) Elementary Gas Certificate for Non Domestic Installers.
EGC (Meter Installer) Elementary Gas Certificate for Meter Installers.
Certification NICEIC Certification will issue the relevant “Elementary Gas Training Certificate” to candidates on successful completion of the course, giving the individual Category 2 status within the ACS scheme, allowing the holder to apply for assessment(s) within the category for that status;

ACS Non Domestic Catering Safety Core and Appliances
ACS Liquefied Petroleum Gas Safety (LPG) Core and Appliances

Assessment Information: The EGC is a Managed Learning Programmes (MLP) built in association with EU Skills and in accordance with the Standards of Training document IGEM/IG/1 joint publication from EU Skills and IGEM.
 
The EGC programme consists of both centre training and 'on the job' work experience, gained whilst under the supervision of a registered gas installer, acting as the candidates mentor
 
Individuals will be required to demonstrate competence in real On the Job situations during the performance of these genuine work activities their work will be observed and recorded by a Centre approved Gas Safe Registered engineer.  All tasks and duties will be those reasonably expected of being performed by a competent gas operative.
 
All trainees will therefore be expected to have demonstrated competence in the On the Job tasks over a period of time under normal working conditions to generate a sufficiency of evidence portfolio.
 
Areas Covered: Each trainee will be assessed on the job in the following areas:
  • Customer contact
  • Tightness testing (including medium pressure*)
  • Purging
  • Pipework installation
  • Trace and repair gas escape*
  • Disconnection of pipework / meters prior to work
  • Setting of pressures & gas rates
  • Risk assessments and safe working practice
  • Ventilation requirements
  • Appliance controls operation and testing.
  • Replacement of appliance gas components
  • Tools and materials
  • Flues *
  • Use of Industry labels and notices*

Elementary Gas Certificate for Non Domestic Installers Course Content:
  • CMA1 pathway covers the core criteria for installation of meters in the non-domestic and domestic premises, which is to be completed over a period of 280 learning hours.
  • CMA3 pathway covers core criteria for installation of meters in the domestic premises, which is to be completed over a period of 230 learning hours.
  • CMA2LS pathway covers the core criteria for installation of meters in the domestic premises which are not to be connected to the internal supply, which is to be completed over a period of 105 learning hours.
