18th Edition Wiring Regulation – Certification Key Timelines

The 18th Edition of the New Wiring Regulations, also known as BS 7671, was issued by the IET on 1st July 2018.


There is a six month transition period before the new requirements come into effect on 1st January 2019. However, installations may be designed in accordance with the ‘new version’ before that date.
18th Edition Certificates

Currently registered businesses can access 18th Edition Certificates through the following channels:

  • Paper based certificates available through the Online Shop

  • Electronic certificates are available now through the Online Certification system which comes with new features and benefits

Clik are expected to launch their 18th Edition Certificates in late November

Existing Jobs, Design to 17th Edition Wiring Regulations, but installed after 1st January 2019
If you have a number of contracts where you have designed your project to the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations and the installation will be completed after 1st January 2019, you may want to consider ordering some paper based certificates to keep in stock so you can sign off your work in the new year, keeping your customers project  compliant. Electrical installation certificates will still be available for a short period of time in 2019. However all other 17th edition certificates in all formats will be removed from sale in January

New Jobs Designed after 31st December 2018 to comply with BS 7671:2018
For all registered businesses, designing any new installations after 1st January 2019, your projects will need to be certified using 18th Edition Certificates
