The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the British Standards Institution (BSI) are preparing to release a Draft for Public Comment (DPC) on 8 May 2024. This DPC will seek industry feedback on a proposed amendment to the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671:2018+A2:2022. The amendment follows a bulletin from British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers' Association (BEAMA), the trade association for energy, infrastructure and systems, that aims to clarify the use of unidirectional and bidirectional protective devices.

NICEIC Technical Director Paul Collins commented: “We welcome this DPC which addresses feedback we have gathered from NICEIC-certified businesses on this topic. We highly recommend you respond to this DPC to make sure your voice is heard.”

How to comment

As of 8 May 2024, comments on the DPC can be submitted through BSI’s Standards Development portal. The deadline for responses is 5 June 2024 at 17:00.

If you wish to submit comments you must register on the BSI Standards Development portal first.

The DPC will include the option to comment on each clause, figure, and table.

Comment type

Three types of comment may be submitted. From the dropdown, select from the following options.

  • General: comments on the standard, or comments that are neither technical nor editorial.

  • Technical: comments on the technical content of the standard.

  • Editorial: comments such as corrections to spelling or rewording to express the technical point more clearly.

The final amendment is due to be published in summer 2024, on the IET and BSI websites.
